How to obtain a Malaysian driving licence for Australian


The Malaysian Road and Transport Department for Federal Territory (Kuala Lumpur) is located at:

There is an office at Petaling Jaya but this office does not handle licences.

If you have a valid Australian driving licence and wish to obtain a Malaysian driving licence, the Malaysian Road and Transport Department has advised they require the following documents:

  • Valid Australian driving licence
  • Australian passport with Malaysian work permit stamp (you may be asked to provide copies of your passport and work/dependant's permit)
  • A letter from the Australian High Commission stating that your licence is a valid licence and licence class details Fee of MYR 30.00 for a one year licence. There is an option to pay MYR 90.00 for a 3 year licence
  • Two passport size photographs
  • Completed application form (obtainable from the Malaysian Road and Transport Department - the form is a one page document in Bahasa Malay)
  • The Consular Section of the Australian High Commission will issue the required letter on sighting your original Australian driver's licence. The consular fee for this letter is AUD $30.00 payable in Malaysian Ringgit (cash) at the current exchange rate.
